Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed as new West Ham boss after Graham Potter sacked

Signed, sealed, delivered: Nuno Espirito Santo - (West Ham United FC)

West Ham have appointed Nuno Espirito Santo as their new head coach after Graham Potter was sacked.

Potter was relieved of his duties today after winning just one of his five Premier League games this season, leaving the Hammers languishing in 19th.

Nuno, 51, joins as his replacement mere hours after Potter’s departure was made official.

Standard Sport understands he held talks with David Sullivan and Karren Brady on Friday, with the deal finalised on Saturday. He will be in the dugout for Monday night’s trip to Everton.

He has signed a three-year deal, and led training for the first time on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking on joining the club, Nuno said: “I am very pleased to be here and very proud to be representing West Ham United.

“My objective is to work hard to get the very best from the team and ensure that we are as competitive as we possibly can be.

“The work has already started and I am looking forward to the challenge that is ahead.”

Nuno, formerly of Wolves and Al Ittihad, started this season in charge of Nottingham Forest, but was sacked after falling out with owner Evangelos Marinakis.

He led Forest to a European berth last season, guiding the club to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League, but did not get the chance to coach them in the Europa League.

Potter’s West Ham beat Nuno’s Forest 3-0 earlier this season - his only win of the campaign.

Nuno’s backroom staff is yet to be confirmed, but he will be assisted by academy coaches Mark Robson, Steve Potts, Gerard Prenderville and Billy Lepine for the time being.
