Nuno Espirito Santo breaks his silence on Harry Kane's decision to stay at Tottenham this season

Nuno Espirito Santo has stated that it is "great news" that Harry Kane has decided to remain at Tottenham amid talk of a transfer to Man City.

Speculation surrounding the 28-year-old's future has dominated the headlines since May, with a big-money transfer to the Premier League champions looking a real possibility given their need to bring in a new frontman.

The England captain is believed to have been keen on a fresh challenge and a chance to link up with Pep Guardiola's team, yet Tottenham had always maintained that they had no intention of selling their player.

Man City would have had to submit an eye-watering bid to turn Daniel Levy's head, with the club so far believed to have only made a bid of £75m plus £25m in add-ons.

Following confirmation from Kane himself that he is remaining in north London, Espirito Santo was asked about the news in his pre-match press conference when previewing the Pacos de Ferreira Europa Conference League clash.

Great news. Fantastic news for everybody." said the head coach. "I think since Harry joined us he has been working so this is what we value. His attitude in training sessions have been great.

"It’s finished, he is going to be with us. He worked today, he is an option for tomorrow. Fantastic news for everybody."

When asked if Kane could push for another move in January, Espirito Santo replied: “I am not worried at all. It’s day by day, he’s an option for tomorrow.

"It’s the only thing, it is my only thought, try and make the best decisions for tomorrow and Harry is an option for tomorrow."

Taking to social media on Wednesday afternoon, Kane had earlier provided an update on his future and confirmed the news that all Spurs fans had been hoping for.

"It was incredible to see the reception from the Spurs fans on Sunday and to read some of the messages of support I've had in the last few weeks," he explained.

"I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100% focused on helping the team achieve success. #COYS."
