Nuno Espirito Santo breaks his silence on Arsenal link amid speculation over Unai Emery's future

Nuno Espirito Santo has said being linked with Arsenal is not a distraction for him, amid speculation that he could replace the under-fire Unai Emery in north London.

The Wolves boss has been linked with Arsenal, with the pressure increasing on the Gunners boss after a poor run of form in recent weeks.

Emery is facing questions over his future in north London, with fans calling for the Arsenal hierarchy to make a change after a 2-2 draw with struggling Southampton this weekend.

The Spaniard is set to take charge of the Europa League game against Eintracht Frankfurt at the Emirates Stadium tomorrow (Thursday), but Emery has said that he is not thinking about his future beyond that.

When asked about the speculation over his future ahead of the game tomorrow, Emery said his focus was only on today and tomorrow.

One of the managers linked as a potential replacement for him is Nuno Espirito Santo, who has guided Wolves into the Europa League group stage this season, having finished seventh in the Premier League last season in their first campaign following promotion from the Championship.

But the Wolves boss has refused to discuss the links in detail, adding that he is focused on Wolves' game with Braga tomorrow in the Europa League.

“I think you know me well enough and you know that I’m not going to answer about that. I will never mention an issue that’s not a reality. Mainly because the job has a manager in it. It would be disrespectful," he said.

“(The links) are not a distraction.

“You know me. I don’t talk about ifs, I don’t talk about possibilities, I don’t talk about things that are not real.”

The Portuguese boss was also asked if he was happy at Wolves, with Nuno responding: “I think we are doing OK. It requires a lot of work and every day is a chance to improve and this is what we want to do all together.”
