Nuno Espirito Santo and Tottenham sent stark Harry Kane message ahead of Manchester City clash

Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson has warned Spurs about the risks of keeping Harry Kane amid continued talk over his future.

The speculation over Kane's Tottenham future continues, with Manchester City among the potential suitors for the England captain, who has spoken of his desire to win trophies.

The Premier League champions are the favourites to sign him in the coming weeks, but Spurs have always said that they do not wish to sell Kane, and it would take a lot of money to force Daniel Levy’s hand.

However, Robinson believes that there is more to come with this transfer and has warned Spurs that they could be at risk of repeating a similar situation to that of Christian Eriksen, who was unsettled at the club before eventually being sold to Inter Milan.

“I think there’s going to be a lot more to this story in the coming weeks when things start to unravel,” former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Gambling.com.

“The manager [Nuno Espirito Santo] is saying he’s available for selection against Manchester City on Sunday, but I find that strange given he’s only trained for a few days and not played any minutes in pre-season games. I can’t see how that can happen.

“If the manager does start putting him in to squads and into the team while the situation is not resolved, I think we’ll end up in a similar situation to when Christian Eriksen was there – sitting on the bench, not playing to his full potential when called upon.

“That upset the rest of the dressing room, in all honesty.”

Robinson also feels that the entire situation has been handled poorly and has created a negative atmosphere for player, club and fans alike. With that in mind, he feels as though Kane's time with Spurs could be coming to an end.

"I think the way this has been handled has not been good for either party," he said.

“I don’t think there’s a possibility that he can stay there now.”

City have already seen a £100million proposal rejected by Levy earlier in the window, but the Premier League champions are not giving up just yet, and could go back in for their top striker target later in the window.
