A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a teenage boy was stabbed in broad daylight in south east London.

Police and paramedics were called at around 10.30am on Sunday to reports of a fight in Nunhead Grove.

They found a boy, believed to be 16, with stab injuries. He was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition, the Met said.

Scotland Yard has now put temporary measures in place across parts of Peckham, Nunhead and Dulwich, allowing officers to carry out ‘no suspicion’ stop-and-searches for weapons.

The boy’s next of kin have been informed.

A 21-year-old man was arrested close to the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody.

A crime scene remains in place at the scene.

Following the incident, a section 60 has been put in place covering the SE15 and SE22 postcode areas. The special order - which allows police to conduct ‘no suspicion’ stop-and-searches for weapons, and is used in anticipation or response to serious violence - will remain in place until 11.43am on Monday.

Anyone with information that could assist police is asked to call 101 or tweet @MetCC and quote CAD 2727/4Sep. Alternatively, you can provide information to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
