The Tokyo Olympics has finally kicked off, a year late because of the coronavirus pandemic. The arenas are now open to over 11,000 athletes from over 206 countries to compete for glory. India has sent a contingent of 125 athletes to compete in 18 of the 46 sports and, hopefully, bag a few medals. Five years ago, the country had sent 117 athletes to Rio De Janeiro and they managed a measly two medals, PV Sindhu winning a badminton silver and Sakshi Malik a bronze in wrestling.
So, what’s the composition of India’s Tokyo Olympians? Which states are they from? They are expected to bring medals, but has the government helped them with money and facilities?

The total expenses include financial incentives to sportspersons, assistance for promotion of sports excellence, funding for anti-doping activities, and funding for various sports schemes under the union youth affairs and sports ministry, including Khelo India, which was introduced in 2017. The total expenses don't include the money spent on specific events such as the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
