Number plate entry restriction lifted at recycling centres

A number plate system put in place to limit trips to recycling centres across North Somerset has been lifted.

The odd and even vehicle registration system was put in place when the recycling centres in Weston-super-Mare, Portishead and Backwelll re-opened in May as Government lockdown restrictions started to ease.

As part of the system, vehicles were restricted to which days they could visit depending on their number plate.

The move was introduced as a way of limiting numbers to ensure social distancing at the civic amenity sites could be maintained.

Although North Somerset Council has not made an official announcement on the changes, when contacted by Bristol Live it confirmed the restrictions had been removed from Monday.

It now means that people can visit any of the three recycling centres on any day of their choice.

Council spokeswoman Zoe Briffitt said: “We have withdrawn the number plate restrictions.

“This came into effect yesterday (Monday).”

The news will be welcomed by residents across the district, many who faced long queues waiting to get into the recycling centres on their allowed days.
