'Number one choice' - What reported Nottingham Forest target has said about his Chelsea future

Reported Nottingham Forest target Marc Guehi has previously said he would prefer to stay at Chelsea, rather than go out on loan.

The Reds are one of a number of clubs said to be keen on the teenage defender ahead of the January transfer window, along with Norwich City, Southampton, Swansea City and Bristol City.

Guehi signed a new long-term contract with the Premier League side in September, but it has been reported he could be sent out on loan next month to further his development.

The 19-year-old made his senior debut for the Blues earlier this season in the Carabao Cup, playing 90 minutes against Grimsby Town, and also featured in defeat to Manchester United in the same competition.

He said back in October that ideally he would look to continue his progress at Stamford Bridge.

“The door is open for anything really,” Guehi, who can play at right-back or centre-back, told talkSPORT at the time.

“If the opportunity is there and it’s the right move for me to go on loan, I wouldn’t say no.

“But at the same time, if the gaffer wants me to stay and help the team, and develop and try to keep pushing others players in the squad, I would do that as well.”

Asked if he thought staying would help his development more, the England Under-21 international added: “One hundred percent, staying. I’m training with some of the best players in the world and I’ve got an amazing manager to look up to and feed off.

“Staying would be probably number one choice for me.”
