'Number of staff' at Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital self-isolating after colleague tests positive

A 'number of staff' are currently self-isolating at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow after a colleague tested positive for coronavirus.

The employee is reported to be a hospital porter, and it is believed that more than 20 of their colleagues are in isolation at home as a result of the positive test, according to The Herald.

A spokeswoman for NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde said: “We have confirmed there has been a case concerning a member of staff within the hospital and a number of staff have had to self-isolate.”

The news comes after Nicola Sturgeon expressed her concerns after new figures illustrated that coronavirus cases have trebled in the last three weeks.

The First Minister revealed that the average daily number of new cases over the past seven days is 155 - almost triple the average of 52 three weeks ago.

There have been 159 new cases since yesterday, with 63 of those in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 29 in Lothian, 19 in Lanarkshire and 10 in the Forth Valley.
