Number of people given Covid vaccine second dose in the UK passes 10 million

More than 10 million people in the UK have received two doses of a coronavirus vaccine, according to new figures from the Government.

Almost one in five adults in the UK (19 per cent) have now received two jabs.

A real-world study by Public Health England suggests the vaccines saved more than 10,000 lives between December and March, in addition to reducing hospitalisations.

Boris Johnson said it is “fantastic” that more than 10 million people in the UK have received two doses of a coronavirus vaccine.

“This is another remarkable milestone in our vaccination programme, which has already saved thousands of lives,” the Prime Minister added.

“I want to thank the brilliant staff and volunteers involved in the rollout, and urge all those who are called to keep coming forward.”

A total of 36,147,077 Covid-19 vaccinations took place in England between December 8 and April 18 (PA)

Health Secretary Matt Hancock welcomed the UK having administered more than 10 million second doses.

He tweeted: “Over 10 million second vaccine doses have been administered across the UK.

“This milestone shows how far we’ve come in our fight against this virus & I want to pay tribute to the whole team involved.”
