Number of Dublin families living in hotels almost doubles in a year

The number of Dublin families living in hotels has almost doubled over the past year, according to the latest report released by the Dublin Region Homeless Executive.

This May, 177 Dublin families were in hotels compared to 90 in May 2021. The highest number was in March 2017, when 871 families in the capital were living in hotels.

At the end of May 2022, 972 families in the capital were residing in emergency accommodation, increasing by 16 since the previous month and 284 since May 2021.

Across Dublin there were 7,432 people availing of emergency accommodation at the end of May, including 2,259 children. 64 families entered homelessness for the first time in May.

During the month, the DRHE said that 46 families were prevented from entering emergency accommodation through the HAAP scheme and social housing. 38 families also exited emergency accommodation into new tenancies.
