Number of covid deaths recorded at care homes across Bristol region in March

Fewer than ten coronavirus deaths were registered in the region's care homes in the first four weeks of March, latest figures show.

Nine deaths linked to coronavirus were confirmed in the region's care homes between March 1 and March 26, according to the latest provisional data from the ONS.

In comparison, a total of 117 coronavirus deaths were registered in the region's care homes in January - which is a 92 per cent drop.

What is more, one area of the region didn't record any deaths linked to coronavirus on its care homes in March.

North Somerset is the area in the region to have recorded the lowest number of deaths so far in 2021, with 26 coronavirus deaths registered.

No deaths linked to coronavirus were registered in the area's care homes between March 1 and March 26, with the latest covid deaths being registered on February 22 (2).

February saw eight coronavirus-deaths being confirmed in North Somerset care homes.

In Bath and North East Somerset care homes, 82 deaths linked to covid-19 have been registered so far in 2021 - the highest in the region.

Nearly half of those were registered in the first two weeks of February (38), but only six were recorded in the second half of the month.

According to the data, only two coronavirus deaths were registered in BANES care homes in March.

And, in Bristol, 68 coronavirus deaths have been recorded in the city's care homes so far in 2021.

A total of 34 deaths were recorded in January - a 240 per cent increase from December, when 10 deaths were confirmed - and, looking at February, a similar number of covid deaths were registered (31), with eight deaths were recorded in the first day of the month alone.

However, looking at the data for March, three coronavirus-related deaths were registered up to March 26 - meaning there was a 90 per cent drop compared to the previous month.

South Gloucestershire, on the other hand, recorded a similar number of coronavirus deaths on its homes in December (26), January (29) and February (24).

Last week, health chiefs revealed they were on track to vaccinate every adult in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) from Covid-19 by the summer.

A council meeting heard the region was on target for all over-50s to have a coronavirus jab by the end of April and that the area covered by BNSSG clinical commissioning group had completed immunising all residents over 70 and those most at risk from the virus.
