Number of Covid-19 cases in West Dunbartonshire moves above national average

West Dunbartonshire’s Covid-19 rate has crept above the national average, with Dalreoch currently the worst hit area locally.

Public Health Scotland data shows that more than three cases have been reported in every local neighbourhood apart from Whitecrook in Clydebank over the last seven days, with rates at their highest in Dalreoch (18 cases, 323.3 per 100,000), Bonhill (16 cases, 270.2 per 100,000), Kilpatrick (11 cases, 226.7 per 100,000).

West Dunbartonshire’s seven day rate currently sits at 158.6 cases per 100,000 people, above the Scottish average of 139.9 per 100,000.

Elsewhere locally, 11 new cases were reported in Dumbarton East (225.5 per 100,000), eight in Alexandria (196.6 per 100,000), nine in Leven (180 per 100,000), six in Lomond (135.7 per 100,000), eight in Balloch (135.9 per 100,000), six in Bowling (141.3 per 100,000) and 11 in Dumbarton (155.9 per 100,000).

Despite the rise in cases however, West Dunbartonshire hasn’t reported a death for any reason within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test since April 21.

Last week First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced that Scotland’s roadmap out of lockdown had been paused due to rising cases.

No area in Scotland is expected to move down a level now before July 19, with West Dunbartonshire and Argyll and Bute both currently in level one restrictions.

Scotland had been due to move to level zero, the lowest tier of restrictions, on June 28.
