Number of coronavirus patients in Lanarkshire edges closer to 300 mark

Forty new cases of coronavirus were confirmed today in Lanarkshire bringing the total closer to the 300 mark.

The Scottish Government today confirmed that 284 people have now tested positive for COVID-19 - a 16 per cent rise on the previous day.

It comes as 76 patients across Scotland who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have died.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: "Coronovirus this is the biggest challenge of our lifetime and measures we take to tackle it must reflect the magnitude of that.

"These measures are essential to slow down the spread of this virus. They are essential to reduce the peak impact of it."

A further 563 patients with coronavirus have died in the UK, taking the total number of deaths in hospitals to 2,352.
