NUFC injury bulletin: Mo Diame running out of time to trigger new deal and Lejeune latest

Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez has confirmed Mo Diame is fit to face Leicester City.

The former Senegal international missed the game with Crystal Palace due to a muscle strain and has just five games left to net the two appearances he needs to secure a one-year contract extension.

Diame will be vying for a place in midfield with Isaac Hayden, Ki and Jonjo Shelvey against the Foxes.

Benitez is without injured centre-back Florian Lejeune with Sean Longstaff the only other absentee for the clash at the King Power Stadium.

He said: "Mo Diame is back, Longstaff and Lejeune are out.

"The rest are all available."

When asked if Lejeune would be a big miss, Benitez reflected: "When Florian was not playing, we were not doing so well.

"When he came back, he helped us because he is comfortable on the ball.

"We can play with four or five at the back.

Newcastle United the 13th best supported club in the world, according to new study

"We can manage, but it is never good to lose such an important player.

"I was in contact with him (Lejeune) and I have seen him today.

"The point now is to decide when to have the operation.

"Normally he will go to Rome.

"Last time he came back in four months, and he is unlucky now.

"We hope he has a good operation and comes back soon."
