Nuclear-Related Stocks Surge. This Stock Has Soared 195% Since Sam Altman Left.

Emerging nuclear-power technology stocks moved higher before the opening bell for Monday's stock market, with Oklo advancing 195% since OpenAI head Sam Altman stepped away and nuclear reactor supplier BWX Technologies in a buy zone.

Several nuclear companies focused on small modular reactors, or SMRs, and uranium-related plays jumped early Monday. Both are continuing to ride the tailwind since President Donald Trump signed several executive orders aimed at supporting the industry and to power the so-called "AI revolution."

Nuclear Stocks Move Higher

Oklo stock soared to new all-time highs of 73.55 before closing up 2.8% to 65.44 during Monday's stock market, adding to its nearly 27% gain last week. On Wednesday, Oklo announced it has been selected by the Department of Defense to supply its emerging nuclear reactor technology to power the Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska.

Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives on Thursday increased his Oklo stock price target to 75, up from 55. The increase followed the announcement of the government deal. Ives noted that it is further evidence to support Trump's focus on the "AI revolution" and nuclear energy.

Oklo stock entered Monday's stock market up 200% in 2025. Altman, the OpenAI chief executive, stepped down from his role as chairman of the nuclear-power startup on April 22. OKLO shares have moved about 195% higher since then.

Oklo is looking to bring its first commercial SMR to the market in late 2027 or early 2028. There are currently no commercially operational SMRs.

Meanwhile, BWX Technologies, entering Monday's stock market, traded in a buy zone. Aggressive investors would read the stock as extended, up more than 60% from an April low, according analysis of MarketSurge charts.

BWXT gained around 1.1% to 139.63 on Monday after edging up 0.2% to 138.07 on Friday. Shares are just above a traditional 136.31 buy point from a cup base, according to MarketSurge.

BWX Technologies supplies the U.S. Navy with nuclear reactors and also has a strong position in the supply chain for Canada's nuclear energy program. William Blair analysts wrote in late May that BWX could "expand its commercial nuclear power business" in both Canada and into SMR technology.

Trump Executive Orders Fuel Nuke Stocks

Trump in late May signed four executive orders to support the nuclear energy sector and put in place a "total and complete reform" of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, or NRC. The executive orders also look to speed up the deployment of new nuclear power reactors in the U.S.

The May 23 executive orders directed the government to cut down on regulations and fast-track licenses for reactors and power plants to shrink a multiyear process to 18 months, the Financial Times reported.

Trump's 'Consequential' Shift In Energy Policy Fuels Upgrades For These Stocks

The Trump White House defines AI as a national security objective and stipulates that the Department of Energy and Defense work with the private sector to accelerate deployments of SMRs, to power AI.

Big Tech has been bullish on investing in SMRs as a way to power data centers to train artificial intelligence models.

SMRs aim to provide power at the site level, drastically reducing the time and cost of permitting, constructing and operating full-scale nuclear facilities.
