NTT Docomo Inc. will release a new mobile phone almost the same size of a business card in late November, which the carrier describes as the world's "thinnest and lightest" product of this kind, the company has announced.
About 9 centimeters high, 5 centimeters wide and about 5 millimeters thick, the new mobile phone weighs only about 47 grams.
The screen is equipped with a black-and-white electronic paper display to cut electricity consumption. It has basic functions for making calls, short messaging and web browsing.
"We hope customers will have two units both for business and private use," said President Kazuhiro Yoshizawa at a press conference Wednesday as he unveiled the new product. He personally showcased the smallness of the mobile phone by taking it out from his own business card holder.
