NTT Data Corp. is to begin a demonstration test of an app Monday that measures the heart rate and stress level of users by analyzing a short video of their face taken with a smartphone.
NTT Data plans to sell the app as a corporate service as early as October in the hope that it helps company employees manage their health amid the spread of the novel coronavirus, the firm said.
The app measures five vital signs such as heart rate, respiration rate and blood oxygen saturation, based on criteria including the condition of the skin on the user's cheek and muscle movement, according to the company.
With blood oxygen saturation considered to be one of the indicators of pneumonia severity, the app is also expected to be used by those who have developed novel coronavirus symptoms.
Blood pressure and blood alcohol concentration are also expected to be added to the list of measurement items.
The spread of the infection may lead to a revision of the practice of face-to-face employee health guidance and health screenings at many companies.
NTT Data says that it will also ascertain whether the app can be used by occupational physicians to provide health guidance without face-to-face contact.
The firm aims to provide the service to 400,000 people in 200 organizations by the end of fiscal 2022.
