NT tourism stimulus vouchers snapped up

More than 12,000 vouchers have been issued for people to spend on tourism in the Northern Territory. (AAP)

Northern Territorians have snapped up thousands of COVID-19 stimulus vouchers, designed to help the Top End's pandemic-ravaged tourism sector.

The NT's tourism voucher scheme went live on Monday night, with all 12000 $200 travel coupons spoken for in just a few hours.

More than 26,000 people hit the website in the first hour, causing lengthy delays for many.

"If you did miss out last night make sure you are on the waitlist as there will be vouchers issued in the coming weeks," Tourism Minister Natasha Fyles said in a statement on Tuesday.

It's the second round of vouchers released, which have proved to be among the most popular of the NT government's efforts to stimulate its economy.

Recipients must spend at least $200 to redeem the voucher.

People who use their vouchers for bookings more than 400km from their homes can apply for an additional $200 bonus payment.
