Two sisters have allegedly escaped an Alice Springs COVID-19 quarantine facility by climbing the perimeter fence and jumping into a waiting vehicle.
The women, aged 19 and 22, were then driven to their mother's home, who later reported them to the Northern Territory Police.
The women returned to quarantine, accompanied by their mother and one of their boyfriends, an NT police spokeswoman said Monday.
One of the women was uncooperative when told she'd have to go back to the Todd Facility but eventually complied.
Both the mother and the boyfriend have been directed by the NT chief health officer into mandatory supervised quarantine.
"It's incredible that after all this time, with deaths and lockdowns, people are still not taking this pandemic seriously," commander Sachin Sharma said.
Investigations are continuing and infringements likely to be issued.
The NT penalty for failing to abide by the CHO's directions is $5056 for an individual and $25,280 for a business.
