The Northern Territory has recorded 864 new cases of COVID-19.

In the 24-hour reporting period to 8pm on Tuesday, 402 were recorded in the Top End region, 113 in Central Australia, 188 in East Arnhem, 36 in Big Rivers, 34 in the Barkly region and 91 are under investigation.

Authorities say 786 cases came from rapid antigen tests.

The number of active cases in the Territory is 5513, with 131 patients in hospital, four in intensive care, and 11 requiring oxygen.

A territory-wide indoor mask mandate is still in place and it is recommended all people aged 12 and over continue to wear masks outdoors when social distancing cannot be maintained.
