A man in his 80s from a remote community in Central Australia has died with COVID-19 — the Northern Territory's 36th death related to coronavirus.

In a statement, NT Health said the man had "underlying health conditions" and had died at Alice Springs Hospital, but did not provide the date he died.

A NT Health spokeswoman later said the man had died on Wednesday, March 30, and the Chief Health Officer had verified his death as COVID-related this morning.

There are currently 14 people in hospital with COVID-19 in the territory, including one in need of oxygen and one in ICU.

Today, the NT reported 421 new cases of COVID-19, with 369 recorded from rapid antigen tests (RATs).

The daily caseload is the lowest the territory has recorded since Tuesday, when there were 408 new cases.

Of the cases reported today, there were 354 recorded in the Top End, 20 in Central Australia, four in East Arnhem, four in Big Rivers, and three in the Barkly, while 36 remain under investigation.

There are currently 2,778 active cases in the territory.
