Northern Territory Police say two people, feared missing in Central Australia since Monday, have been found and face hefty fines for failing to abide by health directions.

The 49-year-old woman and 22-year-old man were last spoken to by officers at the Northern Territory's border with South Australia on Monday, July 19.

In a statement, NT Police said the pair was ordered to undergo 14 days mandatory quarantine in Alice Springs because they had visited a Victorian COVID-19 hotspot.

But the pair never arrived, prompting a call from NT Police for public assistance to narrow down a search area.

They said the missing tourists were found at a Kings Canyon camp site and taken to quarantine.

A separate group of four people have also been sent to the Alice Springs quarantine facility after police discovered they arrived from South Australia on Friday without submitting a border entry form.

Police say they left Adelaide on July 22, after the city had been declared a hotspot by the NT government.

All six people are expected to be fined $5,056 later today for failing to abide by health directions.

Incident Controller Acting Commander Sachin Sharma said "the behaviour of these people puts lives at risk".

"The Northern Territory has a high percentage of vulnerable people and every effort is being made to protect Territorians," he said.

"We thank the community for their help in locating these people and alerting us to their selfish intentions."
