NT police officer faces court, charged with rape

The 37 year-old has been suspended with pay while the matter is before the courts.

A Northern Territory police officer has been charged with a number of offences including sexual intercourse without consent, and has been suspended from duty.

The 37-year-old man was also charged with possessing ammunition without a permit or licence and unlawfully possessing property.

He appeared in Darwin Local Court on Thursday and was granted bail.

In a statement released on Thursday, Northern Territory police said the alleged offences occurred while the officer was off-duty.

In the statement, NT Police said the officer had been suspended with pay but would not provide any additional details about the officer or the nature of the offending.

"This information is provided in accordance with NT Police Transparency Guidelines," the statement said.

"As the matter is before court, no further information will be provided."

The officer is due to return to court in November.
