A Northern Territory Police officer has been charged with aggravated assault and unlawful disclosure of information.

An NT Police statement issued overnight said the two charges against the 35-year-old man had resulted from an incident involving a female member of the public while the officer was off duty.

He has been bailed to appear at the Alice Springs Local Court on May 12, 2021 and has been suspended from duty.

NT Police said they would provide no further information, as the matter was now before the courts.

"This information is provided in accordance with the NT Police Transparency Guidelines," the statement read.

The officer is now under investigation by NT Police's Professional Standards Command.
