Teenager charged with murder over stabbing death of 15-year-old in Darwin

Darwin's Bagot community is reeling from the death of the 15-year-old boy.

A 15-year-old boy charged with murdering a boy the same age in a Darwin Indigenous community will remain behind bars for now, with no application for bail being sought.

The victim was found by police unconscious and bleeding heavily from chest wounds in Bagot community before dawn yesterday.

NT Police yesterday said he was transported to Royal Darwin Hospital where he underwent surgery, but died soon after.

The defendant, who was charged overnight and cannot be named under Northern Territory law, appeared in court via video link from Don Dale Detention Centre this morning, where he will be remanded in custody for the time being.

A preliminary examination mention for the case was today set for July, but the court heard this could be delayed if pathology and toxicology test results were not available.

"The brief [of evidence] is to be provided by July 1, but pathology may not be available by then," the presiding judge said.

The accused boy's father sat in the courtroom as the defendant spoke briefly about his care options in detention.

The case will return to court for a mention on July 1.
