NT Police hold concerns for a woman and her one-year-old baby, missing in Central Australia

Makasha Prayta's family said the teenager left home with Shontayhia on October 24. Family permission has been provided to use this photo.

Northern Territory Police say they hold concerns for 17-year-old Makasha Prayta and her one-year-old baby Shontayhia, who have missing in Central Australia since last weekend.

Family members told police Ms Prayta left home in Alice Springs with her daughter Shontayhia on Saturday, October 24, to travel to the cross border region of Western Australia.

The pair is believed to be travelling in a blue Holden VT Commodore with Northern Territory registration CE10KU.

Police said initial inquiries indicated Ms Prayta could have links the WA Indigenous community of Warburton and also to Hermannsburg, also known as Ntaria, an Aboriginal community about 125 kilometres west of Alice Springs.

"Police hold concerns for the pair as they have not been in contact with family since they were last seen, and initial police inquiries have not located the two," NT Police said in a statement.

Ms Prayta is described as a 17-year-old Aboriginal female with a slim build, brown eyes and shoulder length wavy hair.

Anyone with information as to their whereabouts is urged to contact police on 131 444 or report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 and reference PROMIS number 9463864.

Family permission has been provided to use the attached image of Makasha Prayta.
