A man has been charged over a car crash that killed an 11-year-old boy outside a Darwin super market just days before Christmas last year.

The boy, who was visiting Darwin from interstate with his family, died on December 20 after he was struck by a ute in the car park of the Moulden Supermarket in Palmerston.

Police at the time alleged the driver had lurched forward instead of reversing, pinning the child against the wall.

The 54-year-old male driver has now been charged with dangerous driving causing death, careless driving causing death, driving without a licence and driving with a prohibited drug in his blood.
