NT Police charge driver after ATV crash leaves passenger in critical condition

NT Police have charged the driver involved in a serious motor vehicle crash in Bees Creek.

Northern Territory police have charged an alleged drink-driver over an all-terrain vehicle crash that left a passenger fighting for her life.

Police said the crash involving the Honda ATV happened on Bees Creek Road, 34 kilometres south of Darwin, about 1:30am on Sunday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said the vehicle left the road, hit a street sign and rolled several times before landing on its roof in a culvert.

"The occupants of the vehicle were not wearing helmets but it appears they did have their seatbelts on," he said.

The 33-year-old female passenger was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital, and was still in a critical condition on Sunday night.

The 35-year-old male driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The man has since been charged with dangerous driving causing harm, driving unregistered, driving uninsured and driving under influence of alcohol.

He'll appear in Darwin Local Court on Tuesday January 5.
