A man who escaped from a quarantine facility in Alice Springs eight days ago has been arrested by NT Police.

The 27-year-old man allegedly climbed out of his room at the Todd quarantine facility and escaped via a balcony on December 3.

After an extensive police search, NT Police said members of the Tennant Creek criminal investigations branch and local police officers arrested the man on the Barkly Highway around 11am this morning.

The alleged offender was found near the Three Ways Roadhouse.

He was taken to the Tennant Creek watch house, where it is expected he will be charged with a string of offences.

According to police, these include breaching the Chief Health Officer's direction, driving an unregistered motor vehicle without a valid licence as well as drug charges.

NT Police said they would strongly oppose bail.
