The Digital Economy and Society (DES) Ministry has assigned state telecom enterprise National Telecom (NT) to steer six projects that aim to strengthen Thailand's digital infrastructure.
The effort is expected to help transform NT into the country's leading provider of digital services for the public sector, while reinforcing Thailand's long-term cybersecurity resilience.
Boonthida Somchai, the deputy DES minister, said the projects align with policy directives issued by DES Minister Chaichanok Chidchob, who assigned her to oversee NT.
The six projects proposed by NT include the development of the public safety mobile network. The initiative seeks to upgrade the 850-megahertz spectrum to a dedicated communications network for disaster alerts, emergency response, public safety monitoring and disaster mitigation.
The second project is the development of a marine radio communications service. NT plans to transfer this system operation to the Marine Department in 2028 for continued management.
Third is NT continuing to develop the Government Data Centre and Cloud Service to support digital transformation across all government agencies.
The fourth project calls for NT to promote international traffic balancing policy, aiming to strengthen Thailand's international connectivity through a more balanced integration of terrestrial and submarine cable systems, amid growing demand for resilient digital infrastructure and national security preparedness.
In addition, NT is to establish a national security zone by enhancing the efficiency of international network infrastructure and upgrading and repairing submarine cable routes to ensure optimal operational capacity.
Finally, the state telecom enterprise is expected to integrate the state network infrastructure and rights of way.
The initiative seeks to streamline state network infrastructure cooperation among state agencies to reduce network redundancy and maximise the utilisation of public assets.
Ms Boonthida said NT's nationwide infrastructure, extensive network assets and experienced workforce position the company to play a leading role in Thailand's digital future.
