NT man found dead in remote area, police search for car

Police are looking for a vehicle similar to this silver, 2000 Holden VX Commodore sedan.

Northern Territory Police are searching for the car of a man who was found dead near a roadside in a remote area of the Territory, about 300 kilometres north of Alice Springs.

The 32-year-old man did not arrive at his intended destination on Saturday and his body was found later that day on a pathway off Murray Downs Road, 15 to 20 kilometres north of Ampilatwatja.

"Police understand that the man departed Ampilatwatja in his vehicle on the evening of Wednesday, 10 January to travel to Murray Downs Station, however he failed to arrive," Senior Sergeant Michael Potts said in a statement.

"Police from Ali Curung conducted patrols in an attempt to locate the vehicle and the man, however these efforts were unsuccessful."

The man's body was then found by community members who were searching for him.

Police said a cause of death had not yet been determined and a report would be prepared for the coroner.

Detectives launched a search for the man's car as part of the investigation.

It is described as a silver, 2000 Holden VX Commodore sedan, NT registration CC79JJ.

Officers appealed for anyone with information about the whereabouts of the car to come forward and contact police on 131 444 or crime stoppers.
