NT Dunn, K Fairbairn, LB Scarlett sign Texans qualifying offers

The Houston Texans will get the services of three very significant role players in 2019.

According to the club’s PR Twitter account, nose tackle Brandon Dunn, kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn, and linebacker Brennan Scarlett signed their qualifying offers on Monday.

Dunn produced 24 combined tackles, four tackles for loss, and forced a fumble in 14 games last season, 10 of which he started. The nose tackle even intercepted a tipped ball in the club’s 21-7 wild-card playoff loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Jan. 5.

Fairbairn had a career season for Houston as he went 37-of-42 on field goals and 39-of-41 on extra points. The former UCLA Bruin earned AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors and AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for December.

Scarlett had more splash plays in his 12 games and three starts for Houston in 2018. The 25-year-old recorded 18 total tackles, three pass deflections, an interception, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Like 2017, Scarlett went on injured reserve in December and was lost for the season.

The trio has demonstrated their ability to be impactful for Houston. Now that the Texans have Dunn, Fairbairn, and Scarlett set for 2019, they can look to add to the roster via the draft starting April 25.
