NT detectives investigate death of 11-year-old child in remote community

Crime division detectives visited Gunbalanya but police haven't said if the death is being treated as suspicious.

Detectives have travelled to a remote Top End community to investigate the death of an 11-year-old child.

The child died in the Arnhem Land community of Gunbalanya, 240 kilometres east of Darwin, a police spokeswoman said.

The child's death was reported to police yesterday morning.

"Detectives from the Crime Division have attended a West Arnhem community to investigate the circumstances," police said in a statement.

No further details have been provided, and it is not known if the death is being treated as suspicious.

Police said a file will be prepared for the coroner.
