NSW woman dies after being set on fire

A man has been charged with murdering a woman who was set on fire in the NSW Riverina region. (AAP)

A man has been charged with murdering a woman who was set on fire during a domestic violence incident in the NSW Riverina region.

Police found the 42-year-old woman on fire after being called to a Deniliquin home on Wednesday afternoon.

A senior constable who tried to help the woman suffered burns to his hand while trying to extinguish the blaze and the woman died at the scene.

A 31-year-old man, who was known to the woman, was arrested at the home and taken to Deniliquin Police Station.

He was charged with domestic violence murder and refused bail to appear at Deniliquin Local Court on Thursday.
