NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller is considering taking a position with the Australian Rugby League Commission in a bid to stamp out player misbehaviour.

Commissioner Fuller confirmed he had spoken to ARL Chairman Peter V'Landys about numerous incidents that happened last year involving NRL and the police.

"Both he and I are determined to ensure that 2021 is not a repeat of the last twelve months in that regard," Commissioner Fuller said in a statement on Friday.

"We had a general discussion regarding the fact there was a vacant position on the commission. A decision has not yet been made by either myself or the commission."

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said her office had not received a formal approach about the potential appointment.

"If anything of that nature came across my desk, we would make sure there was no conflict and everything was okay before anything proceeded," the premier said.

Earlier in the day she threw her support behind the commissioner.

"I don't begrudge people wanting to have advice from the NSW police commissioner. He does an outstanding job," she told radio 2GB.

However, the prospect of the police commissioner taking on a second job was heavily criticised by NSW Labor and the Greens.

Opposition Leader Jodi McKay said Mr Fuller "can be the police commissioner, or he can work with rugby league, he can't be both".

"I think as police commissioner your job is solely on fighting crime, your job is solely on making sure that people feel safe in the community," Ms McKay said.

Greens MP David Shoebridge said having two roles would present "obvious conflicts of interest in oversight of the NRL, whose players regularly come to the notice of police".

"Last time I looked, the $650,000 job of NSW police commissioner was a full time role," he said.

AAP has sought comment from the NRL.
