NSW co-captain Isabelle Kelly remains in hospital after coughing up blood following an incident in Thursday night's Women's State of Origin match against Queensland.
But the Sky Blues confirmed Kelly has been cleared of serious throat damage after she was struck by Julia Robinson's forearm as she attempted to tackle the Maroons winger just before half-time in the 18-10 loss at Western Sydney Stadium.
She needed the assistance of two trainers to leave the field and played no further part in the match.
Kelly, who was taken to Westmead Hospital, gave an update on her condition on Friday morning.
"Still in ICU at hospital surrounded by the most amazing staff at Westmead, been a scary 12 hours but hopefully head home tomorrow," Kelly wrote on Instagram.
The Sky Blues released a media statement saying Kelly would remain in hospital as a "precautionary measure".
"Isabelle Kelly has been cleared of serious throat damage following an incident in last night's State of Origin Game One," the statement read.
"Tests have shown Kelly does not have a fracture to her larynx or windpipe damage.
"She is breathing more freely but still has swelling to the throat."
The Sky Blues said Kelly's availability for the second match of the series — in Townsville on June 22 — would depend on her recovery.
After Thursday night's match, Sky Blues coach Kylie Hilder questioned why her side was not awarded a penalty following the incident involving Kelly.
"It's a big concern for me when we've got a player on the ground in discomfort and not in a great way and she was struggling to breathe," Hilder said.
"I am very concerned about her now and I still don't understand why there wasn't even a penalty for that when she was hit in the throat."
Robinson was upset following the match, explaining she never intended to injure Kelly.
"We're not out there to hurt people," she told ABC Sport.
"I love Izzy, so obviously I felt terrible she went down."
The Sky Blues will need to win the return clash in Townsville by nine points or more if they are to retain the Women's State of Origin shield.
