The NSW Premier has flagged relaxing Sydney's controversial lockout laws, saying "we need to put some injection into our nightlife".
Gladys Berejiklian on Sunday conceded it was time to boost the night-time economy after a cross-party parliamentary committee review of the laws began earlier in the year.
"While we will await the committee's report, I agree it's time to enhance Sydney's nightlife," Ms Berejiklian said in a statement to AAP.
"Sydney is Australia's only global city and we need our nightlife to reflect that."
The premier told reporters there was a "window of opportunity" for the government to relax or repeal the laws - but she wanted them to remain in Kings Cross.
"My personal view is that we should keep Kings Cross the way it is ... but the rest of the precinct we do need to at least relax and that's where the committee's final report will be of interest," she said.
Ms Berejiklian said any changes would have to go to cabinet but she definitely expected "that what you see in areas outside of Kings Cross will be different".
The committee's report is due to be released on September 30, with deputy chair and Independent MP Alex Greenwich saying the city is ready for its night-time economy to be revived.
