Police have allegedly found more than $3 million worth of drugs after pulling over a car on the NSW north coast.

Detectives caught up with a Queensland man on the M1 motorway at Ballina about 9.30pm on Thursday.

A search allegedly uncovered more than four kilograms each of methamphetamine and cocaine with an estimated street value of more than $3 million.

Police say they also found a stolen sawn-off shotgun and ammunition.

The man, 51, faces drug, firearm and proceeds of crime charges, and was refused bail to face Ballina Local Court on Friday.
