NSW man shot dead in targeted attack

A Newcastle man has been shot dead in what NSW police believe was a targeted attack.

Officers were called to a unit in Hamilton South at 11pm on Tuesday after reports of a shooting.

They found a 57-year-old man at the front door with a gunshot wound, who was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

Police say they believe the incident was targeted and have set up Strike Force Alcheringa to investigate.
