NSW man nabbed for DUI twice on Aust day

Police in northern NSW stopped a man for drink-driving twice within a few hours on Australia Day, (AAP)

A NSW man has lost his licence and been charged with drink-driving after being nabbed by police twice on Australia Day.

Police charged the man with two high-range drink-driving offences after being stopped twice within hours in the state's north on Wednesday.

Officers were notified of a Mazda driving in a dangerous manner near the Captain Cook Lookout at Nambucca Heads around 4.40pm.

Police say they stopped the car and gave the 39-year-old driver a roadside breath test, which returned a positive result.

He was arrested and later given a secondary breath analysis which allegedly returned a reading of 0.203 at Nambucca Heads Police Station.

He was charged with high-range PCA and his driver's licence was suspended.

The same car was spotted around 7.30pm at Nambucca Heads and police gave the same driver another breath test, which again returned a positive result.

The man was arrested and taken to Macksville Police Station, where he underwent a secondary breath analysis which allegedly returned a reading of 0.191.

He was charged with two more offences - driving with high-range PCA and driving while suspended.

The Nambucca Heads man was refused bail and will appear at Port Macquarie Local Court on Thursday.
