A man has been charged over his alleged role in planning the murder of underworld boss Mahmoud "Brownie" Ahmad in Sydney's south-west.
Ahmad, 39, was leaving a friend's house at Greenacre when he was peppered with bullets before his alleged killer or killers fled on April 27.
A 49-year-old Wetherill Park man has been charged with one count of accessory before the fact to murder, and accessory after the fact to murder.
Police Acting Commissioner Jason Weinstein told ABC News Breakfast he expected further charges to be laid against other people in the coming months.
"I expect there will be further people to be charged in months to come," he said.
"Our allegations will be today that this male undertook purgatory acts before and after those persons who then fired the shots to Mr Ahmad.
"Our allegation is not that he was the shooter, but that he undertook those acts that allowed those persons to do the offence that they did."
Investigators claim Ahmad — once known as "Mr Big" — knew he had a target on his back, but continued to go about his life as normal.
Police first arrested the 49-year-old man in Campsie and then raided a home in Wetherill Park on May 2.
Officers allegedly seized more than 25 kilograms of methylamphetamine or the drug ice with an estimated street value of $22 million.
$200,000 cash and fake number plates were also seized as part of the investigation.
Taskforce Erebus detectives visited the man in custody last week and charged him with the new offences.
Police will allege in court that the man was involved in planning Ahmad's execution.
He is due to face Fairfield Court next month.
A fortnight after Ahmad's death, his step-nephew Rami Iskander, 23, died in the arms of panicked relatives after being ambushed outside his Belmore home.
No one has been arrested or charged with Iskander's murder.
