NSW man charged over fatal station assault

A 27-year-old man has been charged with murder, accused of fatally assaulting another man at a Newcastle train station in the NSW Hunter region.

Police say officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District were called to Beresfield Train Station just before 6pm on Monday and found a critically injured 39-year-old man on the platform.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man however he died at the scene.

A short time later, police arrested the 27-year-old man and took him to Raymond Terrace Police Station, where he was charged with murder.

The Newcastle man was refused bail and will appear at Maitland Local Court on Tuesday.
