NSW man charged over child abuse material

A northen NSW man will face court after being charged with online child abuse offences. (AAP)

A 32-year-old man from northern NSW is accused of sharing child abuse material online and making arrangements to meet up with a child for sexual purposes.

Detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crime Squad's Child Exploitation Internet Unit say they engaged online with the Glen Innes man, who believed he was speaking with a 38-year-old mother.

Police say he engaged in conversations about sexually explicit acts he wished to perform on her child, sent child abuse material online and made arrangements to meet the child in person.

Strike force detectives arrested the man at a home at Glen Innes on Wednesday, searched his property and seized electronic devices.

The man was taken to Glen Innes Police Station and charged with three counts of using a carriage service to transmit/publish/promote child abuse and planning to commit sexual intercourse with child under the age of 10.

He was refused bail to appear before Armidale Local Court on Thursday.
