A Sydney man allegedly made dozens of attempts to defraud charities and the government of more than half a millions dollars meant for bushfire victims and COVID-19 relief.
The 36-year-old faces multiple charges after his arrest at Emu Plains on Monday morning following months of investigation.
He is accused of 41 actual or attempted scams, successfully receiving 13 payments totalling $85,500.
Police allege he lodged 31 fraudulent requests for payment, totalling $500,998, from NSW government relief schemes intended for bushfire victims and people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Four successful requests netted $33,000 from the government, with another $52,500 allegedly scammed from three charities.
The man was expected to appear in Penrith Local Court on Monday.
