NSW government commits $27 million to Dunns Creek Road

The NSW government has committed $27 million to a new road between Googong and Canberra.

NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro said the funding would accelerate the delivery of the road. The Nationals had promised funding for the road in the 2019 NSW election.

"This project wasn't on the agenda until 2041 but I promised locals that we would bring forward the delivery of Dunns Creek Road and this funding would allow us to do just that," he said.

"We have already seen unprecedented growth in Googong and this vital road will ensure we have the right infrastructure in place as the region's population continues to grow.

"It will not only make life easier for residents in Googong but it will take traffic out of Jerrabomberra and provide a more direct link for many residents to the Monaro Highway and Canberra's south."

The road was expected to cost more than $200 million.

It would link Googong from Old Cooma Road and Googong Road intersection to the new South Jerrabomberra housing estate, with a further connection to the Monaro Highway.

The road has been touted for the Queanbeyan-Jerrabomberra area for more than 10 years. In 2015, Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council signed off a preferred route.

At the recent Eden-Monaro byelection Labor promised $65 million to the development of the road. Labor also promised to build the road at the 2019 NSW state election.

A number of roadworks have taken place in the region. Last month the $86 million Ellerton Drive extension was opened and the duplication of Old Cooma Road was also recently completed.
