NSW goes 13 days without local virus case

NSW is just one day short of notching up a fortnight without any new locally-transmitted COVID-19 cases.

Statistics released on Friday showed that from more than 18,000 tests in the 24 hours to 8pm on Thursday, just three new cases were diagnosed in returned travellers in hotel quarantine.

Health authorities are concerned however, after fragments of the virus were detected in sewerage samples taken from Batemans Bay on the state's south coast on Tuesday.

The positive sewage result can be due to shedding of the virus by someone who may have previously had the illness, but anyone in the area with even the mildest symptoms should get tested.

NSW Health continues to advise NSW residents to defer non-essential travel to Adelaide while the South Australian capital deals with a COVID-19 outbreak.
