NSW doesn't need a ministerial sex ban, state Treasurer says

Premier Gladys Berejiklian has "no plans" to follow the Prime Minister's lead and ban NSW Cabinet minsters from having sex with their staff.

Last week Mr Turnbull announced he was overhauling the ministerial code of conduct to ban sexual relations between ministers and their staff after it was revealed Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce had an affair with a staffer who is now pregnant.

The sex ban made international headlines and trended on social media with the hashtag #BonkBan, while federal Labor suggested the Government would be "sticking long lenses in people's bedrooms" to police the policy.

Mr Turnbull painted the ban as a move designed to address power imbalances between male ministers and female staff, but a NSW Government spokesman said "the Premier has no plans to change the ministerial code of conduct" in NSW.

The state's Treasurer Dominic Perrottet has criticised the Prime Minister's ban, saying the bedroom is not a place where the Government should interfere.

"I believe in personal responsibility, I don't believe you should make rules and regulations in that space," Mr Perrottet said.

He also said that unlike Canberra, NSW did not have a need for such a ban.

"I don't see the need for it to be introduced in NSW, that's a matter for the Federal Government.

"They've got their own challenges down in Canberra."

Sports Minister Stuart Ayres also has no appetite for a ban.

"I'm very, very comfortable with the ministerial code of conduct in NSW," Mr Ayres said.

Health Minister Brad Hazzard declined to comment on whether he thought a ban should be introduced in NSW and said he "would leave that issue to Mr Turnbull".
