The Perth Scorchers' BBL clash with the Hurricanes in Perth on Monday could be switched to Hobart after Western Australia announced it would be reclassifying NSW as an extreme risk jurisdiction.
A huge surge in COVID-19 cases in NSW has resulted in the WA Government making the decision to tighten its border even further.
From this Saturday, travel from NSW to WA will be extremely limited, with people entering the state forced into 14-day hotel quarantine.
The Scorchers and Hurricanes are currently in Hobart after facing off there on Tuesday night.
But given both teams played in Sydney last Saturday, there might not be a feasible situation in which they will be allowed to enter WA to face off on Monday night.
The most likely result is both sides will stay in Hobart to face off there, thus avoiding the complexities of trying to overcome the complex WA border restrictions.
The Scorchers were already resigned to spending the rest of the BBL season on the road following Monday's home clash with Hobart.
The Melbourne Renegades are fixtured to face the Scorchers in Perth on Boxing Day, but that match is almost certain to be played at Marvel Stadium.
The announcement that WA won't open its borders until February 5 means even if the Scorchers earn hosting rights for the January 28 BBL final, it would have to be played interstate.
