NSW Health today announced the number of people out in the community while infected with COVID-19 had risen to 26.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian called it a "most concerning" number, warning that things were going to get worse before they got better.

"I think it is pretty clear that unless we reduce that level of people in the community that are infectious, we won't be able to turn things around," she said.

Yesterday, there were about 14,000 close contacts linked to Sydney's COVID-19 outbreak.

New alerts have been issued for a host of venues in Rockdale, Kareela, Roselands, Greenacre, Kensington, Sylvania and Penrith.

Anyone who visited Broadway Shopping Centre in Ultimo on July 8, from 11.30am to 1:30pm is advised to monitor for symptoms.
